Bark Beetle

The landscape is decomposing, it is becoming foreign. Something small inside escapes through the darkness. Crunching. It is approaching the light. Tiny beetle compared to the colossus of cabling. Everything must be disposed of without residue. Whose forest is it? Maybe then I'll find out how to save what's dead.

Thesis and process of origin:
Non-anthropocentric statement theming decomposition. Březina Military District. Sounds collected from the bark beetle-exhausted landscape, which formed the defense of the voracious beetle. Dead pieces of old set design reshaped by new sources. The places connected the actors with an authentic statement, the foresters of the affected areas, who bring light to a hopeless situation. In the warm atmosphere of the forest, walk on the border of art installations and theatrical performances.

Residence information:
The project of the resident Amálie Poledníčková is directly related to the program of the International Summer School of the Archa Theatre 2021. She works deeper with light as a separate component and explores it through the light installation, which is the dominant factor of the whole production. It maps the areas from which the performers come, presents the issue of forestry as an author's theme conceived from the perspectives of documentary theatre.
