Constanza Macras / Dorkypark — The Ghosts
Moving Audience
Hellerau, Dresden
theatre

"The day I retired life started to be difficult. I had nowhere to live, no work or regular income," says Chinese acrobat Cheng Fei, seven time national champion and world champion. "All of those flowers, applause, banners – as though it was in a different life." Cast aside before the age of thirty, on her own, without social security, often without education and job prospects. In the production of The Ghosts, Constanza Macras worked together with Chinese acrobats and circus artists. It was as though these artists, who formerly won fame and fortune for their country, were forgotten and abandoned by Chinese society, even though many of them are still relatively young. They are reminiscent of the hungry ghosts from Chinese mythology – lost souls that were forgotten by their descendants and languish in interspace.
