Workshop with Chinese choreographer and dancer Wen Hui
Choreographer, dancer, documentary filmmaker and activist Wen Hui will introduce the principles of her work in a practical workshop.
Wen graduated from the Beijing Dance Academy in 1989. After working as a professional dancer and choreographer, she decided to pursue her own independent path in which she would use theatre as an intervention in society. In 1994 she and documentary filmmaker Wu Wenguang founded the independent theatre The Living Dance Studio in Beijing. Together with their students they developed unique art methods combining the principles of dance, authentic stories and documentary film. In 1999 they became well-known throughout the world thanks to their courageous project Memory I, II, focusing on the taboo moments of the Chinese history Cultural Revolution and the Great Famine. The Archa Theatre introduced their work to Czech audiences at the Akcent Festival in 2012.
Wen Hui and Jana Svobodová created the performance Ordinary People based on the common theme of the totalitarian history of the Czech Republic and China.
The workshop is open to dancers, performers and all other creators with an interest in documentary theatre and is conducted in English.
