guests: Hearn GADBOIS, Seizan OSAKO, Marek MATVIJA
Extraordinary koto virtuoso Naoko Kikuchi plucks the strings of her instrument with special ivory nails as well as with found objects. Her music develops from sonic intimacy to cunning rhythmical and melodic gradations. Naoko Kikuchi is a member of Ensemble Modern and belongs to the lineage of the legendary player and improviser Sawai Tadao. In Archa, she will be joined by percussionist Hearn Gadbois (US), and shakuhachi players Seizan Osako (JP) and Marek Matvija (CZ).
The concert program includes compositions by Japanese and European composers, such as Takahashi Yuji, Teizo Matsumura, and Bernhard Lang. To commemorate twenty years since Tadao Sawai’s passing (Naoko’s teacher), the concert also feature his seminal composition Jokei Sansho.
Presented by NEIRO Association for Expanding Arts in collaboration with Archa Theatre and the Czech-Japanese Association.
