Struny podzimu 2017
Pianist, composer, and present-day Blue Note Records staple Jason Moran gives tribute to the legacy of Thelonius Monk in a fascinating spectacle that combines original music written for jazz octet with the visual experience of Monk’s legendary performance in 1959. Jason Moran was labelled “the most provocative thinker in current jazz” by Rolling Stone, but simple provocation is certainly not what he is aiming for. His goal – and current norm – is fantastically written and performed music that is an organic fusion of traditional and contemporary jazz. Moreover, Moran’s works aptly reflect the society of today and point to a future of jazz that shines far beyond mere survival. Superb music is supplemented with specially prepared visual backdrops, which invite us on a journey of exploration deep into the musical souls of both Monk and Moran.
