work in progress / Archa.lab resident
A public work-in-progress presentation of the Archa.lab residency of the Portugese artist.
A Letter to my father or Put a ring on it is a documentary project that aims to hear the perspective of people who grew up without a father. It also gives voice to single mothers and their troubles, expectations and thoughts.
This research has, as a starting point, the testimonies of single mothers and their "single kids", but also the book " Letter to father", by Franz Kafka.
There is a biographical approach to this work because the artist Joana Brito grew up only with her mother. She wants to find how the lack of a masculine figure in someone's life can dictate their future and personality.
What will be your intention during the residency Archa.lab at Archa Theatre?
My intention will be to focus on the theme that I have proposed and to find ways of transmitting my starting points (interviews and the book) to a theatrical form.
I would also like to take advantage of the space and technical resources of Archa and to have a free time and space to write and test ideas.
Finally, I would like to come up with a short version of what this project can become and have some feedback from the people who watch it.
