Moving Audience, Festspielhaus Hellerau Dresden
In 1983 Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker achieved her international breakthrough with “Rosas danst Rosas”. A performance that has since become a benchmark in the history of postmodern dance. Rosas danst Rosas builds on the minimalism initiated in Fase (1982): Abstract movements form the basis for a layered choreographic structure in which repetition plays the main role. The intensity of these movements is countered by small everyday gestures. “Rosas danst Rosas” is clearly feminine: four dancers dance themselves, again and again. The associated exhaustion and perseverance creates an emotional tension that strongly stands out from the rigorous structure of the choreography. The repetitive, “maximalist” music of Thierry De Mey and Peter Vermeersch was created at the same time as the choreography. This new production of Rosas danst Rosas is danced by a completely new young cast.

30 years ago, dance company Rosas put itself on the map with the production Rosas danst Rosas. This choreography has since been staged all over the world. And now it’s your turn. Dance your own Rosas danst Rosas, make a video film of it and post it on this site. In the following videos choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and dancer Samantha van Wissen will teach you the moves, step by step, from the second part of the performance. After that it becomes your dance: you dance Rosas. In a different setting, with a huge number of dancers… any way you like!
