Signal Talks – Symposium
PLAN C: sustainability of the cultural and artistic environment
SIGNAL FESTIVAL

Please, note that whole programme of symposium is carried out in Czech language.

The topic of sustainability has perhaps never been as topical and pressing as it is today. The symposium develops it in the context of the local artistic environment on several levels: the realization of sustainable art exhibitions and festivals; sustainability as both the content and medium of artistic production; and finally, in response to the ongoing global pandemic. It reflects on the ways in which arts and cultural organizers have implemented or are implementing their programs in these times. The symposium explores strategies that have been tried and tested by arts and cultural institutions. Therefore we ask: How can we organize more sustainable or environmentally friendly exhibitions and festivals? How can artists contribute to these efforts? or, for example, What to do when the next closure of cultural institutions and lockdown comes, making it impossible to present art in physical space? The first part of the symposium will feature presentations by Veronika Čechová (Jindřich Chalupecký Award 2019), András Cséfalvay (SK), the Black Box project (TIC Gallery Brno – Marika Kupková and TIM FF MU – Jana Horáková), David Korecký (curator of the UNPLUGGED exhibition, Rudolfinum Gallery), a representative of the Institute of Circular Economy and others.

The programme includes a panel discussion entitled AR, during which Signal Festival will present its collaboration with the creative studio BRAINZ IMMERSIVE. These two companies are collaborating on the Signal AR project, which explores the possibilities of using contemporary technologies such as augmented reality for the presentation of art in public space. The panel discussion will be attended by theorists, makers and artists. Together they will look at the topic of augmented reality in different contexts – AR as a means to create or mediate art, the meaning and use of AR technology in the wider social or media environment. The discussion will include artists Radka Bodzewicz, Signal Festival director Martin Pošta, Helena Lukášová (3D AR modelling), András Cséfalvay (SK), Ján Pernecký (SK, founder of Subdigital) and others.
